The No Scalpel Procedure

The vas deferens is the tube which runs from the testicle to the penis hence the name vasectomy. There is one on each side so it needs dealing with on each. The non scalpel technique was developed by a Chinese professor in Shanghai is now the preferred methods due to its low rate of infection and bruising

Vasectomy has no effect on sex drive which depend s on the male sex hormone testosterone which is secreted directly into the blood stream by the testes, ejaculation is the same because vasectomy only prevents sperm being present in the ejaculate most of which is produce by the seminal vesicles which are not affected by vasectomy. As the procedure is under local anaesthetic it is not necessary to starve and there is no shaving required. However for safety reasons it is not recommended that one drives home.

The operation is performed by first of all infiltrating the skin in the middle of the scrotum and the vas deferens with local anaesthetic using a very fine needle. For those with a needle phobia an alternative is to use a jet injector which fires a small amount of local anaesthetic under pressure into the skin and vas and merely feels like flicking the skin with an elastic band... The vas is fixed using a special pair of ring forceps, a small split made in the skin(less than 1 cm) and the vas hooked out.

About 2cms of the vas is destroyed using an instrument called a hyfrecator (this is a microwave which desiccates the vas) and the vas is divided. The procedure is repeated on the other side through the same very small split. No stitches are usually required and more blood is usually spilt shaving.!!!
